In both Japanese and Chinese folklore, the Legend of Koi tells the story of a school of golden koi who swim upstream against a strong current. After many fail to leap over a mighty waterfall known as the Dragon Gate, one persistent koi finally succeeds and is transformed by the gods into a golden dragon.
